Our Services Sclerotherapy This injection procedure is used primarily for spider veins and small varicose veins. It is an office procedure and is particularly useful for patients who have unsightly spider veins or who have had their varicose veins treated in the past. A solution is injected into the vein which irritates it and eventually eliminates it. The procedure takes approximately 15 minutes. Most patients experience only minor discomfort during the procedure. Immediate return to normal activities is encouraged. Closure Procedure (Endovascular ablation) With more than 70,000 procedures performed to date, the Closure Procedure has been proven a safe and effective alternative to painful surgery, and is rapidly becoming the gold standard in varicose vein treatment. Dr. Ruby has been performing this procedure for 8 years and was the first to perform it in the central Connecticut area. This minimally invasive procedure is generally used for patients experiencing pain and other symptoms from their varicose veins. It is usually performed in our office setting, but on occasion will be done in the Ambulatory Surgery Center at St. Francis Hospital. This is a minimally invasive procedure which takes 30 minutes and is done without leaving a scar. Recovery time is minimal and patients are back at work or resuming most daily activities within 2 days. Vein stripping Traditional surgical techniques, such as stripping and ligation, are occasionally required for patients who have large varicose veins and who are experiencing pain. This outpatient procedure is performed at St. Francis Hospital. You will spend about 4 hours in the ambulatory surgery center, but the procedure itself takes about 90 minutes. Recovery time is generally 7 to 10 days. Small incision stab phlebectomy This is an ideal procedure for patients who are bothered by the cosmetic effects of their varicose veins. This outpatient procedure leaves very small scars and allows patients to return to normal activities almost immediately. Transilluminated powered phlebectomy (Trivex Procedure) This minimally invasive procedure is often done for patients who have previously undergone treatment for their varicose veins. Trivex is done in the ambulatory surgery center. Because it is minimally invasive, the scars are very small. Recovery time is generally 7 to 10 days. |
